Gucci GG Marmont Flora Print Handbag

Gucci GG Marmont Flora Print
C:
This is a particularly fun chapter of modern Gucci because it brings together two completely different eras of the house. The GG Marmont was introduced during Alessandro Michele’s Gucci renaissance, while the whimsical botanical imagery traces its DNA back decades earlier to Gucci’s legendary Flora motif. The original Flora artwork was created in 1966 for Princess Grace of Monaco, making flowers, butterflies and insects part of Gucci’s visual language long before the Marmont existed.
Under Michele, those archival natural-world motifs returned in a much more eccentric way—moths, butterflies, bees, dragonflies and fantastical flowers appeared throughout his collections. On pieces like this, the traditional chevron quilting and Double G are almost secondary to the artwork, which makes the more unusual printed Marmonts much more interesting than the standard leather versions.
A great collector detail: Gucci’s Flora designs aren’t simply generic “floral prints.” The house has repeatedly reinterpreted an archival artwork that is now roughly 60 years old, making these bags a little bridge between Gucci’s jet-set 1960s history and its maximalist Michele era.
